From March 26 to April 9, Professor Esperanza Torres Rojas, former Director of International Affairs at the National University of Colombia and Associate Professor at the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, visited South China Agricultural University (SCAU) for a two-week academic exchange and field study. This visit focused on agricultural technology collaboration and educational resource sharing, injecting new momentum into the development of SCAU’s China-Latin America International Joint College.
During her stay, Professor Esperanza held multiple discussions with officials from the Office of International Relations, reaching preliminary agreements on initiatives such as joint master’s degree programs and short-term exchange programs. She emphasized, “The ‘China-Latin America International Joint College’ should not only serve as a hub for academic collaboration but also as an incubator for cultivating cross-cultural talent.”
A representative from the Office of International Relations stated that this visit marks a new phase of enhanced quality and efficiency in the development of the China-Latin America International Joint College. SCAU will continue to leverage its strengths in agricultural disciplines, deepen multidimensional cooperation with Latin American universities, and contribute expertise and resources to advancing Sino-Latin American cultural and technological exchanges.
As a renowned expert in agricultural biodiversity and biotechnology from Colombia, Professor Esperanza dedicated her visit to engaging with multiple schools at SCAU, including the College of Agriculture, College of Engineering, College of Life Sciences, and College of International Education, as well as several national-level research platforms. Beyond academic activities, she toured the SCAU Agricultural Museum and cultural landmarks in Guangzhou, gaining in-depth insights into Lingnan’s agricultural history and technological advancements.
Moving forward, both institutions will leverage the China-Latin America International Joint College to strengthen collaboration in: Talent development, Scientific and technological innovation, Technology transfer, research outcomes, Think tank studies, Language and cultural training.
