In order to promote the double first-class construction of itself and bolster the characteristic development of China-Latin America Agricultural Education and Research Innovation Alliance(CLAERIA), South China Agricultural University(SCAU) dispatched a delegation led by Li Fengliang, the Chairman of SCAU Committee to Cuba, Colombia and Brazil from May 24 to June 3.

During the delegation’s visit in Cuba, witnessed by Wang Weizhong, Governor of Guangdong Province, China, SCAU and the University of Havana signed a cooperation framework agreement and the latter became a new member of CLAERIA when the third overseas Yonggen Science and Technology Station of SCAU was unveiled on the spot . In addition, a multilingual book donation ceremony for Xi Jinping on Governance of the Country was held at the University. Li Fengliang and Miriam Nicado García, President of University of Havana agreed that this visit would lead to substantive cooperation between the two universities, especially the in-depth research on moringa and plant-based protein feed, smart agriculture and intelligent breeding on the platforms of CLAERIA and Yonggen Science and Technology Station.

Meeting with Ambassador Zhu Jingyang of the Embassy in Colombia

During the visit to Colombia, the delegation visited the National University of Colombia, Colombian National Federation of Rice Growers and the University of Tolima respectively, and visited the Ministry of Agriculture of Colombia for exchanges and reached cooperation intentions.The delegation had in-depth discussions with the above units on carrying out all-round cooperation within the framework of CLAERIA. The delegation also met with Ambassador Zhu Jingyang of the Chinese Embassy in Colombia, expressed the appreciation for the guidance and support from the Embassy in the exchanges between SCAU and Colombian counterparts.

Visit to Federal University of Mato Grosso, Brazil

During their visit to the Federal University of Mato Grosso, Brazil, accompanied by President Evandro Soares da Silva and Liu Kexing, Li Fengliang visited the Chinese + Agricultural Science and Education Development Center, the first overseas entity of SCAU, and both sides conducted in-depth exchanges and discussions. In June 2022, the two universities signed the first Chinese + Agricultural Science and Education Development Center in the world and set up language exchange courses, shared language teachers, and dispatched volunteers and Chinese teachers to Brazil. Li Fengliang said that SCAU would continue to support the development of Center, enhance the economic value of Chinese education, accumulate more valuable experience for Chinese universities to carry out such practices, and make greater contributions to the well-being of the two peoples.During the visit, Li Fengliang also sincerely invited the leaders of the visiting units to attend the 115th anniversary celebration of SCAU.

It is reported that CLAERIA has achieved good results in the educaitonal and agricultural cooperation with Latin American counterparts, especially the project of Chinese + agriculture. This visit will expand the relevant cooperation, spead the traditional Chinese culture, promote the implementation of China's advanced agricultural science and technology overseas.
