A Delegation from the University of the Republic of Uruguay Visited SCAU

A delegation including Rodrigo Arim, President of the University of the Republic of Uruguay, and Alvaro Mombru, Vice President, accompanied by Facundo Fernandez, Consul General of Uruguay in Guangzhou, visited SCAU recently. Qiu Rongliang, vice president of SCAU, received the guests and held a discussion. The two parties had in-depth communication and exchanges on cooperation in related fields.

The University of the Republic of Uruguay is the only public comprehensive university in Uruguay. Founded in 1849, it currently has 160,000 students and more than 10,000 faculty members as one of the important higher education institutions in Latin America. The university is one of the first members of the China-Latin America Agricultural Education and Research Innovation Alliance and the China-Latin America Soybean Industry Technology Innovation Alliance led by SCAU. In June  this year, during the visit of SCAU delegation to Uruguaythe two sides signed a cooperation agreement on the basis of cooperation in soybeans and nanomaterials.  

Qiu Rongliang said that the delegation’s visit is of great significance to strengthening agricultural science and education cooperation between the two universities. This year marks the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Uruguay.The two universities have a good foundation for cooperation and this visit would further deepen understanding and promote their relationship.

Rodwango Alim said that in recent years, Uruguay and China have had frequent exchanges in politics, agriculture, culture, education and other fields, especially in the field of agriculture and animal husbandry. The University of Republic Uruguay boasted of agriculture and veterinary medicine, and it is hoped that in the future the two sides would further strengthen cooperation in teacher-student exchanges, scientific research and cultural exchanges.

In his speech, Uruguay Consul General Fernandez pointed out the significance of cooperation between the two universities in the fields of agriculture, animal husbandry, veterinary medicine, food and other fields, and said that the Consulate General would do its best to support and assist in subsequent cooperation  between the two universities.

At the meeting, the two parties had in-depth exchanges on subject construction, teaching and scientific research, and cooperation under the framework of CLAERIA. After the meeting, the delegation visited the SCAU Museum, Animal Hospital, P3 Laboratory, Soybean Laboratory and Crop Resource Efficiency Laboratory.

During the exchange, the delegation held a discussion on soybean and rice cooperation in the conference room of the College of Agriculture. The soybean team gave a detailed introduction to breeding, cultivation and industry, as well as an overview of cooperation at home and abroad. The two sides had a heated discussion and reached a preliminary agreement on carrying out teacher-student exchanges and co-building joint laboratories.
