South China Agricultural University Successfully Offered Portuguese and Spanish Courses
2022-10-14

Recently, the Spanish and Portuguese courses at South China Agricultural University (SCAU) started successfully this semester. The courses were taught by teachers from Autonomous University of Chapingo (UACh) in Mexico and Federal University of Mato Grosso (UFMT) in Brazil, and were quite popular among the students and teachers.

Spanish courses are categorized into credit and non-credit courses with 168 learners in total. The undergraduate credit courses are divided into two levels. Non-credit courses are open to all teachers and students of the university. This is the second time that SCAU has offered Spanish courses since the spring semester of 2022.

Basic Portuguese is the first non-credit Portuguese course offered by our university. 22 teachers and students have enrolled on the course.

At the opening ceremony of the courses, Ms. Sherry Yuan, Deputy Director of Office of International Relations at SCAU, Minerva Pegueros, Director of Language Center of UACh, and Caroline Perreira, Director of Language Center of UFMT delivered speeches respectively, encouraging teachers and students to make full use of the opportunity and lay a language foundation for future China-Latin America academic, scientific research and cultural exchanges, and strive to become friendly ambassadors between China and Latin America.

The courses will strengthen the people to people and cultural exchanges with Latin American partner universities under the framework of the agreement of “China-Latin American Chinese Language + Agricultural Science and Education Development Center” signed in June this year. The construction of the Center has been strongly supported by Centre for Language Education and Cooperation, Ministry of Education. The above courses will lay a good language foundation for promoting the development of the “China-Latin America Agricultural Education and Research Innovation Alliance”.
